Learn More About the Top Home Security Company in Hobe Sound, FL

If there's one thing that homeowners in Hobe Sound can agree on, it's that security and safety risks are part of life. You assume some risk - even if it's small - every time you walk out of your front door. Fortunately, there are many procedures and processes in place to protect us from being victims of crimes, especially in public areas like grocery stores. But what about when we're at home? According to the FBI, property crime accounts for more than 85% of all crime in the U.S. In fact, almost 4.8 million cases of property crime were reported in 2021 alone, with 50% of people reporting that they believe a property crime could happen to them.

If you live in Hobe Sound, chances are you've heard of or know someone personally who has been affected by a break-in or robbery. Property crimes and package theft are higher than the national average, at 53% and 61% respectively. Could you imagine coming home from dinner out with your family, only to see your front door smashed in and your belongings gone? Of course, being the victim of a home break-in is about more than disposable items like TVs and electronics. When the sacred space of your home is violated, you lose peace of mind. What's stopping the criminals from coming back and robbing your home again? Will they tell other criminals that your home is an easy target? Will your children be able to sleep at night knowing that their home has been broken into?

If you're like other Hobe Sound homeowners and believe that peace of mind and safety is priceless, ask yourself this: "What am I doing to make sure my home is protected from burglars?" For most, the answer to that question begins by installing a home security system in Hobe Sound, FL. When you have a burglar alarm installed, you'll have more peace of mind at home or when you're away, knowing that a home security system company like Prime Protection has got your back.

Why Should I Invest in a Home Security System in Hobe Sound, FL?

Whether you live in a gated community miles from a metropolitan area or you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the big city, having a home alarm system is a smart investment. Modern home security systems do more than sound an alarm if someone breaks in - they can include home automation features that make your life easier and can even help reduce energy consumption. But that's just the start. Let's take a look at some of the biggest reasons why you should consider investing in a burglar alarm for your home in Hobe Sound.

ADT Alarm System Hobe Sound, FL

The top reason to buy a security system for your home is for the protection it provides. From home intrusions and burglaries to fires and even natural disasters, today's residential home monitoring systems work even when you're not there. They can also help in the event of a medical emergency. Buying a robust alarm or camera system for security is an investment.

However, when you discover that the average burglary costs homeowners more than $2,600 per victim (according to the FBI), the cost starts to make a lot of sense. When you're the victim of a home break-in, the damage goes beyond fiscal. There's long-lasting psychological damage that occurs, too, and having a home security system can help prevent that trauma.

ADT Security Systems Hobe Sound, FL

Research conducted by Professor Joe Kuhns of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at UNC Charlotte found that nearly 60% of burglars planned their break-ins less than 24 hours before attempting them. Additionally, 83% of burglars surveyed reported that they looked for signs of an alarm system, and over half of them stated that they would abandon their plans if they saw one. This research underscores the effectiveness of visible alarm system indicators such as ADT stickers, yard signs, and outdoor cameras in deterring potential burglars, as their crimes are often opportunistic in nature.

Smart Home Systems Hobe Sound, FL

By installing a home security system, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your home is protected whether you're away or asleep. Plus, modern wireless security systems from ADT that are connected to the internet also allow you to check on your home from anywhere in the world. So, if you're on a business trip in Dubai and want to check on your home, you can do so in a moment's time.

ADT Home Automation Hobe Sound, FL

When you have a professionally installed home alarm system from a company like Prime Protection, many home insurance companies offer you a discount on the price of your premium. More substantial discounts typically apply to systems that include environmental monitoring for smoke, water damage, fire, and intrusion monitoring. While a discount on your home insurance may not cover the total home security camera system in Hobe Sound, FL, it can make having one more affordable over time. Plus, if you need to file an insurance claim for a break-in or other event, having high-def, reliable video footage can be incredibly beneficial.

HOBE SOUND, Fla. —

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a tornado touched down in Hobe Sound around 10:30 Wednesday morning.

Video showed the high winds and heavy rain battering the area as the storm went through, leaving behind toppled trees and multiple damaged buildings.

The hardest hit area appeared to be Bridge Road, heading east toward Jupiter Island.

NWS: EF-1 tornado touched down in Martin County

Many of the large Ficus trees that line the road and create a canopy for drivers to travel through were uprooted.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said they believed the strongest hurricanes had only ever knocked over four of those trees at one time.

The tornado uprooted 22 of them.

That damage is a key reason the National Weather Service determined an EF1 tornado with wind speeds of around 90 miles per hour is to blame.

“We look at the health of the trees, what exactly was damaged on the trees, whether they were toppled over or whether they were snapped or uprooted,” said Will Ulrich, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

County-by-county power outages across South Florida

Just north of Bridge Road, Hobe Sound Elementary School suffered some minor damage in the storm.

Across the street from the school, the Hobe Sound Early Learning Center suffered even more damage.

Several windows were shattered, computers were tossed around a classroom, and playground equipment was damaged.

Administrators said they were given about five minutes notice that the tornado was heading their way.

“We were kind of in fight or flight, just kind of, ‘What do we need to do?’” said Kiersten Alberto, center manager.

Alberto said some children sheltered in a closet while others were taken to a hallway.

“The pressure dropped. Our ears were popping,” Alberto said. “Some of the kids were a little scared, and some of them were like, ‘Yeah, this is so cool!’”

There were no reports of any injuries connected to the storm.

HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — A tornado swept through the community of Hobe Sound late Wednesday morning, cutting a path of damage that mainly stretched along Bridge Road, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed.

The agency rated the twister as an EF-1, meaning it was spinning up windspeeds as high as 85-95 miles per hour.

The tornado touched down around 10:40 a.m. west of U.S. 1, NWS reported. It headed east along Bridge Road before hopping the St. Lucie River and going into Jupiter Island.

The agency is still working to determine the exact endpoints; however, Martin County Fire Rescue (MCFR) estimated it was on the ground for a mile and a half.

“The peak winds we believe occurred in this area along Bridge Road. As you can see a lot of Ficus trees have been toppled in this area. We're hearing from emergency management officials in the sheriff's office that about 20 to 25 Ficus trees were toppled,” Will Ulrich, a Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said.

“It takes a lot for us to determine whether it was a tornado or straight-line wind damage. We look at the health of the trees, what exactly was damaged on the trees, whether they were toppled over or whether they were snapped or uprooted. The direction in which the debris is falling also tells us clues into whether there was rotation ongoing at the surface,” Ulrich said.

A CBS12 viewer drove through the storm. Video they captured shows strong gusts of wind viciously blowing trees and traffic lights flashing as the storm rages.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office warned residents about the damage caused by the possible tornado, stating that the heavy rains and gusty winds were causing severe driving conditions.

The sheriff's office also said that winds were so strong that a pickup truck was pushed onto the tracks on Bridge Road and Dixie Highway. The train signal and crossing were also damaged.

Deputies warned residents that Bridge Road from Gomez all the way to the beach has been shut down due to banyan trees being damaged and blocking the road.

Just steps away from Bridge Rd., children attending summer school at Hobe Sound Elementary School were evacuated and safely moved to the Port Salerno campus in Stuart out of an abundance of caution.

They reportedly lost power for several hours when the storm hit. A spokesperson for the school district told CBS12 News that there was reported damage at the school but it’s unclear whether it impacted the building itself or just the exteriors.

We’re told parents were alerted of the change in pickup location online, however, several parents said they had no idea. Colleen Gee was heading inside the door to pick up her kindergartener when she realized.

“I was a little confused. But someone was here and kind of told me everything that had happened and I was like, oh, that's good. He’s safe so definitely feel better about that,” Gee said.

Sources told CBS12 News that they followed a tornado drill, moving all the kids into safety rooms.

“It makes me feel wonderful. I’m happy that they were able to do all that. He’s safe and secure. That's all you can hope for when they're not with you in this type of weather, especially,” Gee said.

Just across the street, the Hobe Sound Child Care Center has some visual damage outside the property. Sources told CBS12 News some employees took the kids and hid in the bathroom as the storm passed.

Martin County Fire Rescue also shared photos of the storm damage. In a Facebook post, the agency said Jupiter Island was inaccessible as a possible tornado knocked down trees near Bridge Road.

If residents don't need to be on the roadway then they should stay home, MCSO warned.

The sheriff's office said it was sending high water rescue vehicles to the Hobe Sound if residents and motorists need them.

Most of the damage from Wednesday’s storms in Hobe Sound happened along Bridge Road.

Officials with the Martin County Fire Department say a possible tornado traveled about a mile and a half down starting on Federal Highway and Bridge Road and made its way toward the beach.

CBS12 News found several small business owners cleaning up after the storm, including Dusted Off Pretty boutique owner, Chrissy Barley.

She said she had little time to react after receiving the tornado warning.

“So, I looked at it and thought maybe I should go home, so I went to grab my keys I came back and I looked out my windows and I couldn’t even see outside. My windows were vibrating,” said Barley.

She said she took cover in the back of her store and braced for impact.

“My ceiling started vibrating really hard and some rain was coming into my store. And just the noise was so loud,” she said.

Down the street at Nautical and Nice Trading Company, store associate Jada Ball says the storm caught her off guard as well, despite the warnings.

“I didn’t think too much of it until the door started to go off,” said Ball. “I noticed that the wind was creating a suction chamber and opening and closing the door over and over again.”

Ball said the whole building started to shake when the storm barreled down Bridge Road, which knocked off satellite dishes from neighboring businesses, snapping trees in half, and ripped off the sign at the front of the store.

“This is the door I had to hold close and quickly locked it before running in the back. But here’s the sign. There’s another sign too. But it ripped it clean off the pipe here,” she said.

Luckily, that was the only damage the store experienced.

On the other side of the railroad tracks on Bridge Road and Shell Avenue is a different story.

The scenic drive down to Jupiter Island looks a little different, the banyan trees that canopy the road were ripped from the ground during the storm.

“Obviously there are crews out assessing the damage in other areas but specifically here. We’re just making sure that the bridge is safe and try to make sure that we get all of the trees that are in the road, blocking the roadway, get those out of the way so people can continue to use this road,” said Cory Pippin, a spokesperson with the Martin County Fire Department.

“We have to get back to doing what we do and work together as a community because that is what Hobe Sound is about,” said Barley.

No injuries have been reported from Wednesday’s storm.
