Safeguard Your Property with a Home Security System from Prime Protection

Learn More About the Top Home Security Company in Holiday, FL

If there's one thing that homeowners in Holiday can agree on, it's that security and safety risks are part of life. You assume some risk - even if it's small - every time you walk out of your front door. Fortunately, there are many procedures and processes in place to protect us from being victims of crimes, especially in public areas like grocery stores. But what about when we're at home? According to the FBI, property crime accounts for more than 85% of all crime in the U.S. In fact, almost 4.8 million cases of property crime were reported in 2021 alone, with 50% of people reporting that they believe a property crime could happen to them.

If you live in Holiday, chances are you've heard of or know someone personally who has been affected by a break-in or robbery. Property crimes and package theft are higher than the national average, at 53% and 61% respectively. Could you imagine coming home from dinner out with your family, only to see your front door smashed in and your belongings gone? Of course, being the victim of a home break-in is about more than disposable items like TVs and electronics. When the sacred space of your home is violated, you lose peace of mind. What's stopping the criminals from coming back and robbing your home again? Will they tell other criminals that your home is an easy target? Will your children be able to sleep at night knowing that their home has been broken into?

If you're like other Holiday homeowners and believe that peace of mind and safety is priceless, ask yourself this: "What am I doing to make sure my home is protected from burglars?" For most, the answer to that question begins by installing a home security system in Holiday, FL. When you have a burglar alarm installed, you'll have more peace of mind at home or when you're away, knowing that a home security system company like Prime Protection has got your back.

Why Should I Invest in a Home Security System in Holiday, FL?

Whether you live in a gated community miles from a metropolitan area or you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the big city, having a home alarm system is a smart investment. Modern home security systems do more than sound an alarm if someone breaks in - they can include home automation features that make your life easier and can even help reduce energy consumption. But that's just the start. Let's take a look at some of the biggest reasons why you should consider investing in a burglar alarm for your home in Holiday.

 ADT Alarm System Holiday, FL

The top reason to buy a security system for your home is for the protection it provides. From home intrusions and burglaries to fires and even natural disasters, today's residential home monitoring systems work even when you're not there. They can also help in the event of a medical emergency. Buying a robust alarm or camera system for security is an investment.

However, when you discover that the average burglary costs homeowners more than $2,600 per victim (according to the FBI), the cost starts to make a lot of sense. When you're the victim of a home break-in, the damage goes beyond fiscal. There's long-lasting psychological damage that occurs, too, and having a home security system can help prevent that trauma.

 ADT Security Systems Holiday, FL

Research conducted by Professor Joe Kuhns of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at UNC Charlotte found that nearly 60% of burglars planned their break-ins less than 24 hours before attempting them. Additionally, 83% of burglars surveyed reported that they looked for signs of an alarm system, and over half of them stated that they would abandon their plans if they saw one. This research underscores the effectiveness of visible alarm system indicators such as ADT stickers, yard signs, and outdoor cameras in deterring potential burglars, as their crimes are often opportunistic in nature.

 Smart Home Systems Holiday, FL

By installing a home security system, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your home is protected whether you're away or asleep. Plus, modern wireless security systems from ADT that are connected to the internet also allow you to check on your home from anywhere in the world. So, if you're on a business trip in Dubai and want to check on your home, you can do so in a moment's time.

 ADT Home Automation Holiday, FL

When you have a professionally installed home alarm system from a company like Prime Protection, many home insurance companies offer you a discount on the price of your premium. More substantial discounts typically apply to systems that include environmental monitoring for smoke, water damage, fire, and intrusion monitoring. While a discount on your home insurance may not cover the total home security camera system in Holiday, FL, it can make having one more affordable over time. Plus, if you need to file an insurance claim for a break-in or other event, having high-def, reliable video footage can be incredibly beneficial.

Additionally, smart door locks and connected garage door openers can offer a secure way to allow friends and family into your home.

The next federal holiday is coming up and it falls right in the middle of the week.

Juneteenth is meant to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, combining the words "June" and "nineteenth." The holiday seeks to symbolize freedom, achievement and the perseverance of African Americans throughout history.

It was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the U.S. on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the "Juneteenth National Independence Day Act" into law. Most celebrations include parades, barbecues, music performances, and various public and private events that honor African American culture and heritage.

Here's everything you need to know about the holiday, as well what will be closed and open in Florida.

When is Juneteenth 2024?

Juneteenth falls on June 19 every year. For 2024, it happens to be on a Wednesday.

Is Juneteenth a federal holiday?

Yes. Juneteenth is a federal holiday and has been since 2021. See all 11 federal holidays:

Is Juneteenth a Florida state holiday?

While Juneteenth is a federal holiday, only about half of the states recognize it as an official holiday.

Florida, along with states like California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and more than two dozen others don’t officially recognize the holiday and don’t have the day on official calendars as a paid holiday.

However, it was one of three states in the 1990s to commemorate Juneteenth as a day of observance, and some county commissions and city councils have independently declared Juneteenth a recognized holiday and closed offices.

Are Florida government offices open on Juneteenth?

All non-essential federal government offices are closed Wednesday, June 19, 2024, for the Juneteenth holiday.

Since it's not a state holiday, Florida state offices will remain open. Some local government and law enforcement offices may choose to close.

Are banks open on Juneteenth in Florida?

Most banks follow the Federal Reserve's holiday schedule and close for Juneteenth. The largest banks in Florida such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase Bank, Regions Bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co, and Truist will be closed Monday, as will credit unions such as Suncoast and Space Coast.

ATMs and ATM branches will still be operating normally.

Will the DMV be open on Juneteenth?

Yes, the DMV will remain open.

Will I get mail on Juneteenth?

Mostly, no. All U.S. post offices will be closed Monday and there will be no regular mail delivery.

However, you may still get deliveries as FedEx and UPS will be open and offering their usual services.

Are Florida schools closed for Juneteenth?

All Florida K-12 schools are already out for the summer. Most public universities will be closed on Juneteenth.

If it is a private school or university, you should check their calendar to see if it is closed.

Can I go to Publix or Chick-Fil-A? Will stores, restaurants close for Juneteenth?

Most stores and restaurants will likely be open Monday for regular hours. Many chains such as Starbucks offer employees the option of taking the day off or getting holiday pay but locations should be open normal hours.

You may want to call local stores or restaurants you're planning on going to and ask if they'll be open.

~The First Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will last two weeks, beginning June 1 through June 14 ~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (Division) encourages Floridians to purchase disaster preparedness items during the first of Florida’s two, 14-day Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays beginning June 1 through June 14. A second two-week disaster sales tax holiday will take place August 24 through September 6.

“I want to thank the Governor and the Florida Legislature for continuously taking action to support Floridians and providing them with cost-effective ways to be prepared,” said Division Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “I urge all residents to prioritize preparedness during these tax-free holidays and make any necessary updates to their disaster supply kit and plans.”

“Disaster can strike at any time. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and fires are frequent threats to people and property. The beginning of hurricane season is a good time for Floridians to gather supplies they would need to stay safe during and after a disaster,” said Jim Zingale, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Revenue. “I encourage consumers to learn about the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday at FloridaRevenue.com/DisasterPrep and save money on essentials to keep their families, homes and pets safe.”

House Bill 7073 was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis to provide much-needed financial relief for families to prepare for hurricane season, in addition to a number of other tax holidays. This year, Floridians are expected to save millions on vital disaster preparedness supplies such as pet supplies, tarps, batteries, generators and flashlights, which are all included in the list of items eligible to be purchased tax-free.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1 and lasts until November 30. A full list of eligible tax-free items is available here. Floridians can find a full disaster supply kit checklist here.

Forecasters are predicting a very active 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, but even before hurricane season begins June 1, residents around the state have suffered power outages and damage caused by tornadoes and strong storms.

While we tend to focus on building a disaster kit for hurricanes, emergency supplies can be useful after tornadoes, when roads are flooded or during extended power outages.

During the 2024 sales tax holiday periods, tax is not due on the retail sale of eligible items related to disaster preparedness.

This summer will mark the 20th year that the state of Florida has encouraged residents to prepare for hurricane season by offering a tax-free period to purchase critical supplies.

The incentive has saved Floridians millions of dollars, but most importantly, the Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday has undoubtedly saved Floridians’ lives.

Over the past two decades, the sales tax exemption has grown from covering a few essentials to a comprehensive list extending well beyond what is traditionally considered a hurricane supply.

In that first year, tax discounts were limited to purchases of flashlights, lanterns, gas cans, batteries, coolers, first aid kits, two-way radios, tarps, and generators. Today, those items are still tax-free during the holiday, but the list now includes items needed to prepare one’s home for a hurricane and ride out a storm at home or evacuate the region.

With hurricanes, we learn as we go. Below are four areas in which Florida has updated the sales tax holiday to ensure residents are prepared:

¦ Pets: Dogs, cats and other animals are now included in the list of approved storm-prep purchases. Tax-exempt items during the sales tax holiday include food, medication, leashes, pet carriers, pet beds, collapsable food bowls, cat litter, pet waste bags and can openers. Floridians evacuate with their pets, which is why many shelters around the state now accept pets; the state also encourages hotels to modify pet policies when evacuation orders are issued.

¦ Power: During the first sales tax holiday in 2005, Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy were still under development. Today, smartphones are our lifelines — the top source of news and information as a storm lands. Since steady use quickly drains a phone’s battery, the state added portable charging banks to ensure Floridians have a backup power source should the power grid fail because of downed lines and transformers.

¦ Prices: The sales tax holiday restricts certain supplies possibly considered luxury (or for commercial use) based on price points. For example, a Yeti Roadie cooler would not qualify for an exemption, but many Igloo or Ace-branded coolers would. That said, state lawmakers have recognized the need to increase the price limits of supplies eligible for an exemption. For example, in year one, only generators priced below $750 qualified as tax-free. Today, that upper limit is $3,000.

¦ Protection: Carbon monoxide poisoning from improper generator use is among the leading causes of hurricane related deaths. As a result, the state added carbon monoxide detectors to the tax-free list in 2022. Fires also can occur because of stoves left on when the power went out or ruptured gas lines, so smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are now on the list, too.

Lawmakers deserve credit for recognizing that the relatively nominal costs to the state of these tax exemptions — estimated at nearly $50 million in 2024 — are meager compared to the potential loss of lives if residents aren’t fully prepared.

This year, Florida plans to observe two Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays: June 1-14, which coincides with the start of hurricane season, and Aug. 24 through Sept. 6, which falls immediately before the historical peak of hurricane season.

Now is the time to take an inventory of your home. Then, bring that list to a local retailer during the sales tax holiday, and you’ll rest comfortably knowing your family is prepared for hurricane season. ¦
