If there's one thing that homeowners in Tampa can agree on, it's that security and safety risks are part of life. You assume some risk - even if it's small - every time you walk out of your front door. Fortunately, there are many procedures and processes in place to protect us from being victims of crimes, especially in public areas like grocery stores. But what about when we're at home? According to the FBI, property crime accounts for more than 85% of all crime in the U.S. In fact, almost 4.8 million cases of property crime were reported in 2021 alone, with 50% of people reporting that they believe a property crime could happen to them.
If you live in Tampa, chances are you've heard of or know someone personally who has been affected by a break-in or robbery. Property crimes and package theft are higher than the national average, at 53% and 61% respectively. Could you imagine coming home from dinner out with your family, only to see your front door smashed in and your belongings gone? Of course, being the victim of a home break-in is about more than disposable items like TVs and electronics. When the sacred space of your home is violated, you lose peace of mind. What's stopping the criminals from coming back and robbing your home again? Will they tell other criminals that your home is an easy target? Will your children be able to sleep at night knowing that their home has been broken into?
If you're like other Tampa homeowners and believe that peace of mind and safety is priceless, ask yourself this: "What am I doing to make sure my home is protected from burglars?" For most, the answer to that question begins by installing a home security system in Tampa, FL. Whether you live in a gated community miles from a metropolitan area or you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the big city, having a home alarm system is a smart investment. Modern home security systems do more than sound an alarm if someone breaks in - they can include home automation features that make your life easier and can even help reduce energy consumption. But that's just the start. Let's take a look at some of the biggest reasons why you should consider investing in a burglar alarm for your home in Tampa.
The top reason to buy a security system for your home is for the protection it provides. From home intrusions and burglaries to fires and even natural disasters, today's residential home monitoring systems work even when you're not there. They can also help in the event of a medical emergency. Buying a robust alarm or camera system for security is an investment.
However, when you discover that the average burglary costs homeowners more than $2,600 per victim (according to the FBI), the cost starts to make a lot of sense. When you're the victim of a home break-in, the damage goes beyond fiscal. There's long-lasting psychological damage that occurs, too, and having a home security system can help prevent that trauma.
Research conducted by Professor Joe Kuhns of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at UNC Charlotte found that nearly 60% of burglars planned their break-ins less than 24 hours before attempting them. Additionally, 83% of burglars surveyed reported that they looked for signs of an alarm system, and over half of them stated that they would abandon their plans if they saw one. This research underscores the effectiveness of visible alarm system indicators such as ADT stickers, yard signs, and outdoor cameras in deterring potential burglars, as their crimes are often opportunistic in nature.
By installing a home security system, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your home is protected whether you're away or asleep. Plus, modern wireless security systems from ADT that are connected to the internet also allow you to check on your home from anywhere in the world. So, if you're on a business trip in Dubai and want to check on your home, you can do so in a moment's time.
When you have a professionally installed home alarm system from a company like Prime Protection, many home insurance companies offer you a discount on the price of your premium. More substantial discounts typically apply to systems that include environmental monitoring for smoke, water damage, fire, and intrusion monitoring. While a discount on your home insurance may not cover the total home security camera system in Tampa, FL, it can make having one more affordable over time. Plus, if you need to file an insurance claim for a break-in or other event, having high-def, reliable video footage can be incredibly beneficial.
Safety products like ADT-monitored home automation systems can include home automation features that provide convenience and energy savings, making it easier to save time and money. Smart lights and thermostats, when paired with a security system, can adjust themselves to save energy when the system is armed. Additionally, smart door locks and connected garage door openers can offer a secure way to allow friends and family into your home.
In case of an emergency, home automation security systems can offer fast and efficient response times. Whether it's alerting you to a potential threat at your back door or contacting emergency services or the police automatically, these systems help ensure that help is nearby when you truly need it most.
We are proud members of the following organizations:
Many wireless home security systems from ADT work with a smartphone app. This makes keeping up with your pets and family much easier. For example, motion and door sensors will alert you if someone is sneaking around your property. But they can also alert you when your child walks in the front door after school, if an older adult in your home gets out of bed.
Want to learn more about the products and services offered at Prime Protection? We offer a wide range of home security alarm products, from affordable security cameras to fully monitored home protection plans that include automated features. Here are just a few of the most popular products we provide to homeowners and commercial clients in Tampa:
By integrating a home automation system, you can turn your house into a futuristic living space. Automating your home provides you with control over various aspects such as lighting, energy efficiency, home security, and video doorbells. A few features of ADT's monitored home automation package include the following:
When it comes to home robberies, almost 34% of criminals come through your front door. Doorbell cameras with motion detection from ADT can help you keep unwanted guests away from your home. When your doorbell camera detects someone at your front door, you'll get an alert on your smartphone. When you're not at home, you can see and communicate with anyone who happens to be at your front door, from delivery drivers to neighbors.
Doorbell camera features include:
These days, having a reliable alarm system for your home in Tampa is essential. Aras like Sunny Isles Beach has seen an increase in property crime at more than 12 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 alone. With hurricanes and other natural disasters occurring often, it's normal to be concerned about your property.
Fortunately, ADT's home alarm system covers various aspects of home protection, including monitoring for burglaries, fire, flood, and carbon monoxide. Prime Protection LLC offers additional features like video monitoring, door lock and unlock, thermostat adjustment, garage door control, light control, and even the ability to see and communicate with visitors at your front door through home automation options.

In additional news, the trio unveiled their new music video for the single “Barbarian” this past September and will be featured on their forthcoming album “Digital Cordyceps” out on Megaforce Records (release date TBD) to follow their 2017 breakout sophomore album “Delirium Tremens”.
Dallas Toler-Wade comments on the track:
“For me, Barbarian is a prime example of me doing the thing I love and that defines me the most. Continuously striving to improve my craft as a musician and a songwriter. But also the overall message of this song. Live!!! Be free!!! Find your own path!!! Question everything!!! And also we don’t need politicians or religion to shape our moral centers. In fact, It seems they distort the truth every chance they get. This whole album cycle has seemed to have this recurring theme about the narcissistic oligarchy that we have all fallen victim to. I Dallas Toler- Wade the barbarian will fight this mockery until I leave the land of the living, and even after that, my powerful voice will echo through the halls of time!!! Because I am a barbarian!!!”

FLORIDA — Residents of 13 Florida cities are among those most irritated by their neighbors' political yard signs, according to a new survey.
To find out where campaign and political signs are causing the most contention, writers at the pop culture website Geek Nexus surveyed 3,000 homeowners and ranked 175 cities based on the level of irritation sparked by these inevitable yard signs.
The survey found that Florida residents are among the least tolerant of their neighbors’ political signs, with 14 cities emerging among the most irritated by them.
According to the survey, residents of Fort Lauderdale topped the list of those most annoyed by political yard signs. Little Rock, Arkansas, came in at No. 2 and Pasadena, California, ranked No. 3.
Other Florida cities that made the list were:
“Yard signs are a way for people to express their beliefs, but they can also create tension, especially during an election,” said Jake Valentine of Geek Nexus. “What we’re seeing is that something as small as a lawn sign can have a big impact on neighborhood dynamics. It speaks to the importance of balancing personal expression with community harmony, especially in a time as charged as election season.”
Here's a look at the top 10 U.S. cities where residents are most irritated by political yard signs, according to the survey:
Beyond the rankings, Geek Nexus’s survey revealed some insights into the attitudes of Florida residents toward political yard signs. For example, 60 percent of respondents said they knew their neighbors’ political leanings, while 40 percent weren’t sure or preferred not to know.
As for the actual influence of yard signs, their opinion was split: 46 percent of people think these signs can sway voters, while 54 percent believe they’re just lawn ornaments with no real effect on election results.
Meanwhile, most respondents agreed there is a time and place for political yard signs, with 76 percent supporting the idea that signs should only be displayed during specific times of the year, like the lead-up to an election. And while only a small group (24 percent) admitted they might remove a neighbor’s sign if they disagreed with it, the majority (76 percent) were clear that they would not cross that line.

A growing system in the Caribbean developed into Tropical Storm Rafael on Monday and is likely to intensify into a hurricane as it heads north toward the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Rafael does not pose a major threat to Florida. The storm could bring extra moisture to the Tampa Bay area, leading to muggier mornings and some showers this week. Rafael has a low chance — up to 10% — of producing tropical-storm-force winds in the Tampa Bay area.
“We should be pretty much in the clear,” said Stephen Shiveley, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Tampa Bay office.
Shiveley said the storm could cause some choppy waters and rip currents in the area.
As of the hurricane center’s 7 p.m. update, Tropical Storm Rafael was 150 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica, and 370 miles southeast of Grand Cayman, moving north-northwest at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
Rainfall totals could reach more than 9 inches over Jamaica and Cuba through midweek, and then spread north into Florida and adjacent areas of the southeast United States in the latter half of the week.
Forecast models have shifted more to the west since the weekend, and “steady to rapid strengthening” could make Rafael a hurricane on Tuesday, forecasters said.
The storm is anticipated to lose steam before landfall, likely along the Texas or Louisiana coast, although a small slice of the western Florida Panhandle remains within the cone of uncertainty.
The Tampa Bay area can expect humid mornings this week, Shiveley said. Afternoon and evening storms could pop up on Wednesday and Thursday, producing about 1 to 2 inches of rain, with some locally higher spots, according to the weather service.
“The showers we see aren‘t necessarily going to be associated with the system itself,” Shively said. “It’s just that the system is helping to bring that tropical moisture over us again.”
The National Weather Service in Miami forecasts more than 2 inches of rain Tuesday for parts of South Florida, with windy conditions. The weather service in Melbourne said 1-2 inches are likely later Tuesday for Central Florida.
The hurricane center also continued to track a potential system that could form north of the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands in a few days.
The hurricane center gives it a 20% chance to develop in the next seven days.
Meanwhile, what had developed into Tropical Storm Patty is quickly losing its tropical characteristics as it speeds toward Spain in the far eastern Atlantic. Its remnants will still bring significant rainfall to parts of the Iberian peninsula, with up to 5 inches in portions of Portugal and western Spain.
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has produced 16 named storms so far, including 10 hurricanes — three of which have struck Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Rafael would be the 17th, with the official hurricane season running through Nov. 30.
Times staff writer Michaela Mulligan contributed to this report.

FLORIDA — If you’re looking forward to the cooler air that historically arrives in November, you may have to get out of Florida and head north to find it until an expected La Niña climate pattern ushers in colder weather more typical of winter.
In an updated November outlook Wednesday from The Weather Channel and Atmospheric G2, November temperatures in Florida are expected to be slightly above normal. Daytime temperatures this week have been in the mid- to upper-80s in the Tampa region.
AccuWeather says highs normally reach the low to mid-80s early in November, and drop to the mid-70s by the end of the month.
October daytime temperatures in Tampa Bay have mostly in the mid-80s after starting in the low 90s, according to data from The Weather Channel.
Nationally, fall temperatures have been warmer than the forecasters originally expected. The hottest November temperatures are expected in the nation’s midsection, from Minnesota to Texas and western Montana to upstate New York.
The only places in the country expected to have near-normal November temperatures are Southern California and other parts of the desert Southwest. Predictions for unseasonably warm temperatures lingering into December come amid mounting concern that climate change is making summers hotter and extending the warm weather well into fall.
Earlier this fall, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said they’re confident a La Niña to develop yet this winter, but doubt it will be a strong pattern associated with consistent cold weather and heavy snowfall or other precipitation.
El Niño and La Niña are opposite phases of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, a natural climate pattern that causes predictable changes in the tropical Pacific Ocean. They’re not the only factors in weather, but El Niño generally favors warmer, drier weather, while the opposite is true with a La Niña. Either can have an outsized effect during the winter months.
Forecasters originally expected a La Niña to develop late last winter, which turned out to be the warmest on record in the continental U.S. and worldwide.
